Dear Parents,
Hard to believe the summer is already over and the kids are back to school! And with that comes another exciting soccer season at FC America. There are some changes to our season as the boys enter high school and we elevate from the Greater Central Florida League to the Florida State League. Because of the high school soccer season, our club season is significantly compressed. Our final FSL game is set for October 23, giving us only about 9 weeks together. It is critical that every player is committed to our training and games in order for us to have a successful season collectively. The coaching staff would like to communicate a few things about the upcoming season regarding the schedule and expectations:
Preparation
Fewer things are more frustrating to a coach than a player that doesn’t prepare properly for a game or a training session. They are not only letting themselves down, but the other players who are depending on them to be at their best. That said, it is not acceptable for a player to stay up late the night before a game on the computer or at a friend’s house etc. or to skip breakfast and fail to hydrate properly. As the boys continue to mature, they will need to put additional healthy calories into their bodies and additional hours of sleep. The boys should get into a regular sleeping pattern (recommendation of the National Sleep Foundation for adolescents is 8.5-9.5 hours per night). ALL PLAYERS MUST BRING A LARGE WATER BOTTLE TO TRAINING AND GAMES. A regular sized bottle of water or Gatorade is not acceptable for August and September conditions in Florida.
Student of the Game
As Coach Declan has said time and time again, it is critical for the continued development of the boys that they watch as much soccer as possible. Soccer is available on TV more than ever before in the United States. There are many opportunities to watch high level live games locally as well. Rollins, UCF and Stetson are all easily accessible games to watch.
Training Schedule
Our regular training schedule is Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-9:00. The expectation is that the players be at the field no later than 7:15 to begin warming up on their own so that we can start promptly at 7:30. All players must wear the correct training gear to each session including shin guards. Failure to do so will result in extra conditioning work.
Game Day Schedule for All Games (friendlies, league games, tournaments, & State Cup)
Players need to arrive to the field no later than 1 hour prior to the scheduled kick off. The expectation is that the players have all of their gear on and are prepared to begin the pregame discussion and warm up 45 minutes prior to kick off. Failure to do so will result in a player to not start the game if he was scheduled to do so by the coaches, or reduced minutes if the player was not scheduled to start.
Attendance Policy
It is important that the coaches have advanced notice if a player will not attend any team matches or training sessions. For scheduled matches a minimum 1 week notice is required. For training sessions the expectation is that players will attend 7 of 8 sessions a month unless the circumstances are outside of the players control. Notification of missed matches or training should be send to Bill Evans who will then forward to the coaching staff.
SSP
The SSP sessions that we have for the boys either at the SSP facility or at Trotters are a value added element of development, are included with the team fees and are NOT OPTIONAL. Building strength, speed and conditioning are pivotal to the development of the players and doing these sessions helps encourage creating good work out habits and proper training technique. The SSP curriculum is not designed to create body builders or “meat heads”. It is tailored to soccer players to improve speed, strength and agility.
The best part for you the parents is that none of this is directly your responsibility! Yes you do have to chauffeur the boys to games and practices, but they are old enough to know how to eat properly, hydrate properly, prepare their gear for training and games and when they must leave the house in order to be on time.
In order to be as competitive as possible, we must be organized and focused. Executing on these expectations will create a very successful season in the FSL, tournaments we compete in and the State Cup in the Spring. The next 2-3 years are the most important for the boys who want to play at the next level, be it college or professional. We as coaches know what it takes to get there and will do our very best to create well rounded young men and soccer players and take them as far as they’d like to and are capable of going. If anyone has any questions/issues/concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak with Coach Tres or Coach Declan.
Thanks for your continued support.
